Akua Mind & Body integrates three essential components to provide a complete and safe detoxification: Evaluation, Stabilization & Continuing Care. Detoxification provided by Akua Mind & Body occurs in a residential setting. This is level of care is also referred to as "sub-acute detox." This level of care is authorized when the withdrawal symptoms pose a risk without the care and attention of an on call physician and 24-hour supervision by a trained staff.
Evaluation: We first test for the presence of substances of abuse in your system, measuring their concentration as well as screening for co-occurring mental and physical conditions. At Akua, this evaluation further includes a comprehensive assessment of your medical and psychological conditions as well as your current social situation to help determine the appropriate level of treatment following detoxification.
Stabilization: Once evaluated, you will enter the stabilization phase of treatment at Akua. During this phase, pharmacological (medication) and psychosocial interventions will be utilized to assist you through the acute intoxication and withdrawal process progressing into a medically stable, fully-supported, substance-free state. This is often accomplished with the assistance of medications to ensure your medical safety and minimize discomfort. However, when someone has been addicted to drugs or alcohol, the body may not be capable of detoxifying completely without assistance. Substances like heroin, cocaine or meth often stay in the body's system for days. Example with Heroin, withdrawal symptoms can begin as soon as six hours after the last dose and may last up to seven days. We provide a safe detox environment for helping our patients addiction to heroin or other drugs in a way that eases you off the drugs without sending your body into shock.
RTC is considered a stablization level of care and is utilized when there is sufficient need for 24-hour supervision. The rate for residential treatment includes room & board, round the clock care, and the treatment component of the program.
We have seen great success in developing this innovative method of treatment which accelerates the process of breaking destructive patterns created by drugs and alcohol in your life. To accomplish this, we combine the science of substance use disorder services, nutrition, movement, and psychotherapy with Eastern techniques of Acupuncture, Massage, Yoga, and Meditation to achieve a full comprehensive and individualized program.

Our Day Treatment Program is available at our state-of-the-art facility in the Newport Beach. Schedules vary depending on level of care. The Akua Model provides proven clinical treatment methods to help you make positive changes in your life.
Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention Preventing relapse requires that we develop an individualized plan to maintaining new behavior. The plan involves integrating into this new behavior effective coping skills, diversion activities, and emotional support.
The AKUA Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is perfect for people who have completed detoxification or primary care and are ready to return to work, school or other responsibilities, or who do not require a higher level of care. The Intensive Outpatient Program at Akua occurs 3 hours a day, 5 days a week. Many programs do not provide room and board at this level, but at AKUA, we scholarship this cost. On average, insurance companies authorize 20 or more sessions at this level of care.
Akua Mind & Body is the first of its kind and is setting a new standard in care. Our facilities are more than just a sober living home. Unique to the addiction field, Akua is neither a hospital nor a small sober living home.
